Hi,

Can someone please clarify what will be the cost of living around Manhattan, New York area for a family of 4 (myself, my wife, my two daughters aged 6 and 18 months old). I understand kids education is free.

I also understand health insurance can be done at a cost of approx. USD 500 per month for all four of us. Is this true?

Appreciate if somebody can provide me with a breakdown of monthly expenses such as rent, utility, health insurance etc.

I plan to re-locate to US in the next few months and hunt for a job. Also, please provide me with reputed US recruitment/job sites.

This is a very general question. Manhattan is simple enough to answer. For a three bed apartment in Manhattan you are talking 3/4 thousand a month, maybe more. You will be lucky to get health insurance for the family for $500, it will be more like 1200/1500. you would be better off getting a job with health benefits, then it will cost you about 500 a month as it will be subsidised.
If you move out of the city then you will get a more resalable place to rent, but will be faced with a long commute.
Lets say you are earning 100k, which is not a lot of money for Manhattan:

100k

less taxes (city/fedral/state)

about 6K a month.
Rent 3k+
bills, utilitys, food, etc family of 4 at least 1.5k if not more.

1500 left to live on.

Check out salary.com, stick in a zip code and your profession and it will give you a good idea of your potential earrings. Also Monster is a good place to start for job hunting.
Think carefully about NYC, its possibly the most expensive city in the USA , good luck!
