Cost of keeping multiple passports

Hello,

With the number of people in this forum who have two, three, or even four citizenship, it makes me wonder what do you do with keeping all passports up to date. In a typical family with three or four members it can easily amount to seven or more passports to keep track and pay for.

Some countries have inexpensive passports, but others are quite pricey. Some countries give passports good for 10 years, but others only 5, usually for the same price. Children passports are given for 5 or fewer years depending on the country. With all the expense and time spent on paperwork and pictures, are you deciding to only update the more useful passports, all of them, is cost or paperwork burden deterring you from having all passports current for all members of your family?

In my case, I am inclined to consider all these elements and not keep all passports up to date, unless necessary. I think one can easily survive by just keeping the U.S. passport up to date, although some countries are getting more strict on demanding their citizens to come into the country with that country's passport.

My 2 cents

Hasn't been an issue for me yet as all our passports are relatively recent issue.

My wife and I are dual citizens (US/UK), and I expect we'll keep that going, however since our son was born in the US, we'd have to make a special effort to apply for his British passport. Personally I can't see that happening unless he decides at some point to reside in the UK or Europe. So I guess 5 passports is probably enough for us for the time being. ;)

7, being a prime number, is a very unlikely number of passports in a family of multi-citizens :)

I have 2 other passports and i am applying for the US. Will this be an issue at the interview? thanks,

I don't think it is going to be an issue at all.

Not that unlikely :)
Hubby: 2 passports
Missus: 2 passports
Son/daughter: 3 passports (one citizenship by birth and one from each parent).

five would also be a likely number in case the parents only have 1 citizenship each.

Also make sure you read the rules of the country. For example in India's case you lose your Indian nationality once you become a US citizen, so if you travel with your indian passport you could be in trouble.

Hi,
My interviewer knew that I hold Canadian and Pakistani citizenship. Was a non-issue. My US passport in the process of being issued and I intend to keep all three valid throughout my life. Passport fee is a small price to pay for each citizenship in my opinion.
