I have already enrolled in spring term 2007 of MS and pursuing it as a full time student while on H4 status and want to change my status from H4 to F1, so I can start working in the next summer. My current H4 is valid until next summer. My husband's GC labor is pending at back-log center.
1. Can anyone tell me the reasons I should specify for COS - I want to do OPT after my MS education and my husband is on H1-B. If he loses job, F1 status would allow me to continue my education. Are these two reason satified enough? Do you have any other suggestions? I dont have any assistence-ship or on-campus job in hand.
2. If I get my F1 approved by October this year, can i apply for opt in May next year or do I have to be on F1 status for 9 months before I can appy?
3. How long does it take to get OPT approve and be eligible to work?
4. Is there any travel restriction for H4 to F1 transfer after F1 approval? I am planning to visit India in December and I believe I can get my F1 stamped at that time. Is there any issue in that?
