Say a person bought a audio file (a song) or a book from another person (who distributed that file violating copyright laws) and applies for citizenship. 'will the person who bought the file considered not having a moral standing and can he be denied citizenship?

In short no, since that person would have to be charged and convicted of a specific type of CIMT to be denied citizenship based on bad moral character.

Thanks Bobsmyth, but is he not still in a danger of losing his citizenship (after the fact) if he is convicted in a civil court for copyright violations (as I believe almost all of the copyright violations fall under civil laws)?

Is he on trial now? or has he been indicted and facing the court? If he is convicted, then it is possible the citizenship application will be denied.

Danger of losing his citizenship? You mean he is already a US citizen? If so, it depends on immigration statues.. for example, lying to USCIS after becoming a US citizen could lead to stripping of US citizenship. In fact, someone lied to USCIS about being Nazis Secret Service when he was a naturalized US citizen. he was stripped of US citizen and he was deported to Israel for trial.

No. Lying to them before obtaining citizenship can resulting in losing citizenship after it is granted. But lying after obtaining citizenship would only result in fines and/or jail time (if it results in anything).

If all we are talking about here was "civil litigation" as originally posted, there will have no merits to CIMT, and no effect to Naturalization process and/or citizenship status.
