Yesterday, the AVM stated those golden words "This case has been approved. On Jan 11, we mailed....". Ditto for the wife.

I-140 Applied Feb 6, 1998 in EB1(EA) and EB2(NIW)
RFE for both received in Aug 1998.
RFE replied in September 1998
Both i-140 approved Nov 1998
I-485 applied in Jan 1999.
RD Feb 1999
ND Mar 1999
EAD Mar 1999
Started a new job Jun 1999
Started a Company Jan 2000 (with EAD)
FP Feb 2000
RFE 1 for I-485 on Jul 10, 2000 typical EMP letter, 3pay stubs etc
RFE response received by VSC on Aug 4
RFE 2 issued Dec 18 No evidence of my status in the country (that is right!!!!)
Made copy of my passport, I-20, PhD and MBA from US Universities mailed to them on Dec 28
AVM update on Jan 4, 2001
AVM updated with approval on Jan 11, 2001 (THIS CASE HAS BEEN APPROVED)
Long wait, but not frustrating(more so for the wife), as I was able to do whatever I wanted to with the self petition, no labor cert, EAD(s) and just being patient and making sure that the process moved along.
