Coping with Approval announcements later than your case

I see plenty of posts from people who find that they are still waiting while those who are later in the queue got approved.

This is one of the negative effects of a forum like this (the positive far outweighs the negative). While the intention is to share data that puts things in some kind of order, in this case it only puts more burden on already strained nerves. And cruelly reminds us of what we are up against. A system that does not follow the dictats of logic and fairness.

I would still offer the following thoughts knowing that these will be far from comforting those who are stressed out:

a. Things are much better now than they were before. People who filed 485 in 1999 had to wait upto 2 years to get approval. Imagine them checking AVM everyday.

b. It has never been the case that 485 cases are being processed in order. There is nothing new here. And MD/RD/ND alone is not the issue here. The wait began when you started the LC and there are people who\'ve been waiting for more than 4 years. This should put in perspective the minor differences in a few months when it comes to RD etc.

c. Approval announcements of later dates do not necessarily mean that our case is languishing. It is probably with a slow moving officer. Or maybe the person just got lucky. No point in letting it get to our nerves. A flood of approvals indicate that some work going on and this should lift our hopes irrespective of pecking order.

d. Frequency of checking AVM : I\'ve seen earlier posts advising people not to check their AVM every day. Once a week should be enough. This is good advice. Just think about it. Each time I hear the same old message, my spirits drop and it takes a while for me to recover and get back to my daily stuff. Why go through this see-saw every day? If my approval comes through 70 days from now, for example, why make 70 calls that puts such an emotional burden. Instead, make just 10 calls. The toll on mind and purse will be much lighter. No one lost anything because they heard their approval message late. The other issue here is if a RFE is issued. The agony of waiting for your attorney to get the RFE letter will be greatly reduced if you listen to the AVM only occassionally.

here is my 2c worth

goldengate,

Well said. There is no point in checking AVM every night and increasing level of worry day by day.

I think the assumption is practically even if INS sincerely follows some order still it can go only up to assigning cases to officer. Let\'s say if an earlier case got stuck doesn\'t mean that do not approve any case later than that. We also know that the approval takes any where between few days to few weeks. When several officers are working on this process couple of months worth cases may be assigned to officers. Some take few days and some other few weeks for approval. An unapproved April mailer should start worrying only if (s)he is absolutely sure that all May cases are approved etc. If we look at the flow it appears that the approvals are following RD/ND order. Also note that in the process there could be some bottlenecks too. For e.g. some cases need to go to some kind of case resolution unit and several cases may be waiting there!

At this point of time we don\'t have proper way of making sure if the case is assigned to officer or not! Talking to an IIO may give some indication but based on responses on this board we cannot relay upon what they say either!

golden post

Thanks . Let us look at the positive side of the forum
which is flood of approvals and not get down by looking at approvals for others with later PDs , FPs .

Adding to the well said words

Not a good idea to call IIO\'s Increases the blood pressure, drains your pockets, doesnt help the case and sometimes(most of the times :)) information is misleading resulting in worry, disgust, frustration etc etc IIo\'s productivity is far reduced as well contributing to further slowdown of the process for evrybody.
Exceptions to these of course exists but calling IIO just \'coz some TDH got thier approval ahead of us is ... well.. as i said

good luck to all

cheers!!!

Guys! Get it in the right spirit

Hats off to all who are giving a hope to battered souls! We need one of a kind message to look around and be happy about being lucky ones to survive. There is a life above and beyond GC process.

But please! please!! don\'t take the message too lightly and KEEP checking AVM atleast twice a day to "keep pressure" on this forum >.

Very good post goldengate. Hats off to you in taking time off of your schedule and posting it.

Good Luck

Thanks

Thank you guys who responded kindly to my post. And july2kwaiter, am happy that you are through. And hope your good luck wish works for me too :)

PCee, I like your 2 excellent cents. Good points.

BTW, I forgot to add one more thing to my original note.

d. When you get approved make sure you release all the pent up feeling immediately. Take a champagne shower. Get soaking wet in the rain. Scream out loud. Do something silly. After all, you are going to find that worries never end. Only individual chapters do.

Thanks golden gate for the discussion !

Went thru the same worries with my wife\'s H1 process --took 8
months ! Now with the green card process, there have been multiple
layoffs at my company..having survived those..I really get the
feeling that I want my green card NOW ! But hey I did a good
job suriving without it for so long, maybe I can still wait some more.
