Conversion of J1 to J2

Hi,

I want to terminate my J1 and convert to J2-dependent on my spouse's J1. I am subject to 2-year Home rule, Can I apply for J2 conversion within US with I-539? How long does it take?
 
Thank you Lucy! Just a follow-up question. I was instructed that I need to have a J1 waiver for the 2-year home-residency rule in order to be eligible for filing I-539 for J2 conversion. Any thoughts on that? Thank you.
