I have read that:Naturalization applicants must continuously reside in the U.S. for three or five years (depending on the basis for naturalization) and must have been physically present in the United States for half of that time.

Here is where I am confused:

Does it mean that after I spend half the time I can travel and stay abroad the rest but keep returning every six months until citizenship exam??

thank you.
