Finally, a shot in the arm for expired visa holders travelling India.
I was asking this to myself day i arrived in States 7 yrs ago as why do i need to kiss europe for getting here.
From past 3 decades S.Korea,Japan and other far east countries fly non-stop to US (east and west) coasts via traditional routes and polar routes.Recently Thai Air started a non-stop fron Bangkok to New York via N.pole with 15 hrs flat.
Isn't that India has a humongous expats in N.Amercia and not to mention the purchasing power of India is growing exponentially from past few years.
During past visit thru Air-India , i could hardly see anyone getting down in paris, almost all were states bound. This flight has a potential to become non-stop.
Such flights should have been started a decade ago looking at the H1b boom and thus kick those W.european consulate $$$ suckers for transit visa.

I hope more non-stop routes between other cities will follow suit in near future with India's federal open sky policy, save those much needed $$$ to pay at the pump ,time ,uneccessary transfer of flights and luggages getting lost.

Hope folks don't require an icelandic or north pole mid-air transit visa.:p

Let me guess: because of the socialistic/protectionistic or however-you-want-to-call-it agreement between India and US??

No

Not a protectionistic aggreement betwwen india and us.
It was protectonisitic from 1947 till 2000, covertly under E.Europe/corrupt soviet style psuedo socialist demoracy, thanks to moronic ideas of Nehruism.
Monopoly has been broke recently, had we opened our economy in Nehru's era and controlled the mass breeding, we wouldn't have seen flood of H1B's knocking at US's shores.

Anyway, also confirmed from Travel Agent and Sabre, American Airlines will fly non-stop (polar route) from Chicago To Delhi starting december. :)

No more changeovers in Europe, Finally !!!!! :D
Hope they start non-stops to bombay and other cities soon.

The transit visa requirements of many Eurpoean countries always seemed suspicious to me - it seemed that all they wanted was the money. And the travelers would have to rack their brains on finding which ones need transit visa, and the fine print regarding AP or passport stamp for GC (UK does not accept the AP or passport stamp), and not to mention the hassle of either visiting the consulate in person or mailing the passport (which you may have to do at least 4 weeks earlier). I for one, will be very happy to land directly in India.

Hit 'em where it hurts

Thats true !
The best way to hit them , stop travelling by BA and Lufthansa. As more non-stop flights to India starts, these carriers have to shut their shop in India.
About 80% of their revenue coming from South Asia are N.America bound passengers with changovers in Germany/UK, Whats left in EU other than madcow, economic downturn and bird flu ?

I had to undergo transit visa pains during visa revalidation and AP days, now wife has to go thru this ordeal once again. We usually avoid EU stopovers, except for Amsterdam who normally donot require such mad crap of transit visa.

Hmm that good.

I used to think that they do the stopover because there is no plane currently that can fly non-stop this distance.

Also I used to think why none of the flights take the polar route? I guess its mainly because they have to fly in no mans land for a majority of time.

Is this supposedly non-stop flight not going to re-fuel anywhere? IceLand, siberia..

neocor

Is it ?

So non-stop flight between US India are few Light Years ?

Try google on following routes and find out the distances (non -stop flights) 1) NY-Tokyo (Narita).
2) NY-bangkok
3) LA-Singapore
4) London-Sydney
5) London/Amsterdam - Johannesburg
6) LAX/San Fra-Seoul
7) LAX-Tokyo.
8) Rio/Sao Paolo-London

Looks like these flights do refuel in middle of Pacific or timbuktoo?
