Chennai is not accepting what is called AC I-140 process. This means that you will have to wait for I-824 approval. So if you decide to change from AOS to CP now then you will have to file I-824 which is taking about 6 months to get approval from NSC and about 16-18 months from other service centers. Once your I-824 is approved, it will take another 6-9 months to get interview @chennai.
The risk involved in changing to cp especially bcoz consulate is chennai is that you need to make sure that you have this job until your cp interview date.
Else best option is to continue with AOS since that will provide the benefits of AC21 and job portability.
