Confusion Among the B Visa Definition

Okay, if this is listed in another forum thread, I apologise. I have searched and not found such information so here goes.

It is my understanding that a B-2 Visa will allow a person to enter the US for a specific amount of time (Usually 3 months) from a specific date, when this has expired the person is required to either return to their home country (And file for another B-2 if they wish to travel to the US again), file for an extension or send off an application in the US to change their Visa status and wait on the application results.

I have been speaking a lot with someone close about immigrating and want to know: Is any of the information above inaccurate. If so, what is it and what should it be?

Thank you for reading.

Visa simply allows one to apply for admission into US. The actual duration of stay allowed is determined by the immigration officer.

If the visa is a single entry visa then the visitor needs to obtain another B visa for the next trip. If it is a multiple entry visa it can be used again to enter as long as it is still valid.

The duration of the VISA and the duration of stay in the US are two different issues, duration of the visa is determined by the US Consulate and duration of stay by the immigration officer at the port of entry , you can be granted a maximum of 6 months of stay in the US by the officer and which is extendable for another 6 months max.

If you are planning on Immigrating to the US as you have stated, then B2 visa is a wrong approach. Its just a visit visa, will not allow you to work here
