confusion about traveling on OPT

Guys,
The most common question I have and sorry to ask it again bt m bit confused that should I travel during OPT?
I heard that traveling on OPT but before applying for H1 would be safe option.
Is that true?
Please share any information, experience, suggestions about "traveling during OPT".
