There are risks and benefits to filing the I-485. The risk is the possible denial of your I-485 because of having immigrant intent when you last entered the US. That risk goes away if you leave the US and use consular processing.Are there any benefits of doing it this way? It seems like it is more risky than the CR1/IR1 route...
The benefit of the I-485 route is that you can stay in the US and wait within the US for the processing to occur. And you can get a work permit (EAD) to accept employment in the US. If you're going to pursue this route, wait until 90 days (or a bit more) after your last entry to the US, and keep a low profile (if you attract the attention of the immigration authorities you could get deported, which would mess up all your plans ... so make sure you don't get arrested for anything before your I-485 is filed, and don't drive through any immigration checkpoints on the road.)
