Hi,
I was interviewed by the US Embassy, Dhaka on 16-Oct-2007. My wife and my baby was with me. The consular lady was very young and polite. She asked us few questions on some dates like marrage date, graduation date and so on. She asked me to show our family photographs. We tried to satisfy her the best. Finally she told me the followings:

"Congratulation!, your interview has been successful. You have been qualified for the DV2008 program. As we need some administrative processing of your case, this will take time for completing your process. We can not say exact required time, anyway, As soon as we complete your process, we will contact you to bring your passport here for issuing the visa."

saying this, the lady gave us a blue colored paper and a white color paper. She put a seal "Administrative processing Required. We will contact you soon " on the blue colored paper. The white paper is simply a pre-printed letter. The summary of the letter is my interview is successful. She gave back all my original documents and 3 passports.

Can anybody help me to describe my actual status of the processing?
If i am qualified and successful then why they need additional time for processing? Some people got visa just next day of the interview.

Regards
Zahid

hey Zahid you just described everything. There is nothing more somebody else can tell you; the lady at the embassy told you all. Your interview was successful. Period!

I am not too informed on the issue of administrative processing but what I understand is that this usually happens when they need to carry out further checks, perhaps on your documents or your name (particularly if it is a common muslim name).

Administrative processing can take anywhere from a few weeks to several months. There is nothing you can do but wait and maybe contact the embassy from time to time to inquire on the status of your case.

Anyone with further info please advise.

Dear Blackgerman,

Thank you for your quick reply. My question is
"If i am qualified and successful then why they need additional time for processing? "
I know some people who gets visa just after the next day of the interview.

I would advise you to do a search of the forum on 'administrative processing'. There have been threads posted on this issue, it may help you to better understand the process.

I hope everything works out for you.

in most cases you don't need to worry about it much. i know you're not from iran but almost all of us get administrative processing after the interview and almost 90% get their visas. so it must be ok. if your name is a common muslim name, as Islandgirl said you will get this processing precidure(sp?)

i'm not sure but i guess when they said you're qualified maybe it meant document-wise? perhaps they need to have security-wise investigation too. but don't quote me on this as I'm not certain.

Mr. Zahid
Don't worry. "Administrative processing" is basically Name check or background check. They do it for every one regardless religion or native country of applicant specially for immigrant visa as well citizenship application. Even those who apply from US have to go through it. It may take 2 months to 6 months, some times more, even 9 months but for few may take less than 2 months. Once they will get clearance from FBI they will call you back for the visa. Be patient! You will get it.
