I got a notification of an RFE on my 485 case on 11/26. When attorney forwarded the RFE, I found it was on I-140 and not on I485.
To take every shot at beating the retrogression setting in in January, I pushed the attorney to rush a response. (Read Unitednations thread on ability to pay for details on how he helped me). The response to the RFE was recd on 12/15 and all cases (mine and family's) were approved today (12/20). My LUD changed every working day since 12/15.
It makes a lot of sense to rush a response, if there is an RFE pending.
