Q-1 or equal visa? Converting to something more permanent?
Hi,
I have a friend in Vladivostok who would like to work in the USA. She has worked here (Florida) the past two summers on a student visa (that's how I met her), and has now graduated with the highest honors off all students in her university. Her field of study is international relations. I don't think she can come back as a student (since she graduated), so we are looking into some type of work VISA. One I saw that looked interesting is a Q-1 visa for international cultural affairs, which would be right up her alley. Any ideas on that or other visas?
Also, we are good friends and it is potentially growing into something more. We talk over the phone at least once a day. Should our relationship become more serious and we travel a path towards getting married, would the type of VISA she is here on (say a temporary work visa like the Q-1 or 'equal') be an impediment to getting married? For example, would she have to leave the country first, or would there be a conversion process to something more permanent?
Thanks for any anwers!
