Hi all: I work as a computer consultant for my company but they have no interest in pursuing an extension with my client - leaving both my client and myself in a real pickle. I have been here for 4 years already. My I-485 was filed exactly 271 days ago which to my understanding leaves me free to switch employers as long as I work in the same type of job for roughly the same money as my labor certification states. My current client is willing to pick me up or work with another consulting firm to keep me - what would we need to do to keep me in proper INS status? Do we need to file any kind of employer change paper or do I just wait till my interview and bring current paystubs and job responsibilities? I realize the regulations haven\'t really been carved in stone - but where do I stand right now or do I need to start packing to move back to the deep freeze? Thanks for any advice.

You can switch to the clients payroll or find a interm consulting company to do it for you... so that the position, salary, job discripiion etc match the original position ,which some times may be difficult to do with the client payroll and offer letter.

becos Sometimes clients are not comfortable dealing with INS etc.

If you like i can arrange it for you at a nominal cost per hour to the company untill your GC is confirmed.I work with a consulting company and fully undertand you position and i can talk to my recruiter who may do it for you.

Post your mail id and we can take it from there if you like.

But the bottom line is that you are safe cos you have passed the 180 days ..it is only a question of how you present the case to INS if needed.
So dont worry.
