Coming back to USA near H-1B expiration date

Hi:
My H-1B visa stamp on the passport expires on 31 Jan 2003.
I plan to travel outside USA in December 2002. Would i get into trouble at port of entry when my visa validity left is only about a month?.
I have already applied for extension and i think i would have the extension in my hand before i leave. But again the stamp on my passport would be till Jan 2003.
I would appreciate any insights from the senior members of the board or if anyone had a similar experience

The problem is not when you come back into US. you can travel until the expiry date of the H1. However see the various discussions about travel when H1 extension is pending (It is not advisable is the general consensus)...

As you said, the main concern is H-1 extension. So would it be safe to assume that if i have the visa extension approved (still no visa stamp on passport), my travel would be ok.
