Claiming Parent's Nationality

I was born in France. My father was born in Morocco. I was wondering if I am allowed to claim his country of birth instead even though France is eligible to enter the lottery... the same way one is allowed to claim one of his parent's country of birth in the event his country of birth is ineligible to enter. Makes sense?

The only reason I'm asking if that is possible is because Morocco has a much larger number of visas allocated than France is, thus the greater the odds.

Sorry I don't think I was really accurate in my original post, I edited it so that my question actually makes sense. Thank you for feedback.

I have a question regarding the previous posts: If you were born in the country, but do not live there and do not have its citizenship, how are you suppose to go there for an interview? What if you can not obtain a visa to enter?
Is there a possibility to get an interview in the country you live in now?

Salut, Hi
i am myself french with moroccan origins since both of my parents are moroccan . I have been selected to DV 2006 under french citizenship since i was born in France. I had originally the same thought then you but since you country of birth is allowed to participate you cannot use your parents 'country of birth. but for for example, if you were born in England you could have used your parents ' country of birth.

good luck even if very few french born win around 340 pers a year

you don't have to go to the country of your birth for an interview. If you win, in the application you will indicate the consulate closest to you. That's where they'll schedule an interview for you.

Basically, you need to translate EVERYTHING that is not in English.

My parents were going through their interview in Russia, and all of their docs were in Russian (even though their birth country is different), and they ALL had to be translated to English.
