Citizenship question

I have a question regarding time considered to apply for citizenship. Suppose, a person gets his asylum approved on January 2005. Applies for AOS on April 2006. Gets his greencard approved on December 2006. So can the person apply for citizenship from 60 months of the original asylum approval date (Jan 05) that makes it I would Jan 2010 minus two months) or 5 years from dec 06? Just wondering.

Also, I heard to apply for citizenship you have to have resided in the US for continous 2 n 1/2 years continously without a single day out of US. Is that true?

Thanks in advance.

You can apply for citizenship after 4 years and 9 months from the Resident Since date on your Green Card. As far as residency is concerned, You need to be in the U.S. for 30 months in the five year period before you apply for citizenship. The stay does not need to be continous. If you make trips abroad, try not to stay away for more than six months in a year. It might bring some complications during citizenship interview. Extreme emergencies like medical issues need to be documented if you are away for six months and that is your reason.
