my 2 cents!

Can someone share if the N-400 citizenship Interview letter is sent directly from District office or it is from service center as well?

Many Thanks in Advance.

I have been reading a lot about how does the N-400 proces works and I remember reading that IL comes from Sevice Center. The Interview Letter is generated together with an internal transfer request. It means, the Service Center sends you the IL and forwards your Alien File to your district office for final adjudication. It happens once all checks have been completed at the Service center. Good luck! I have seen people getting IL within three months of application, some within 5 months, and with the new procedures once you get the IL it is a signal that all checks have been completed. Good luck!

But, from my observations, it is the result of the District office "pulling" a bunch of applications for interviews. It looks like the DO says "here is our interview schedule, send out letters to the next N applicants in our queue". So, although the letter gets sent from the service center, it is effectively the result of the DO's actions.

But, the above is just a guess.

Thank you all. I had my infopass this morning and IIO said my case is in interview queue from May 29th at VSC. Does this mean all my background checks including treacherous name check is cleared? Any guesses how long this might take to get Interview letter.

IL letter

I have been twice at the Local District naturalization Office inquiring about my case. I just enjoy visiting that Office. By the way, as soon as I become a US citizen I will apply for a job at USCIS, I am serious!!!!
Well, just to reaffirm what has been said above, in both visits I have been told that a case is only placed in queue for IL once all checks have been completed. Flydog, your observations are right. During my last visit, officer was very corteous and explained the process. Once the Local Office has available slots for interview, they send a batch with the request to Service Center ,which in turn, sends the ILs and start forwarding A files to the district office. Right now, Miami has slots for August. Applicants who applied around february/March with Texas Service center and reside in Miami, should be receiving their IL within the following weeks for sometime in August. This is what the officer told me. As you can see in my signature below, I was also able to get the date my name check was completed or received by USCIS. I have been placed in queue for IL since early May, about 14 days after USCIS received the resulst of my fingerprints as per IIO. I hope this is helpful to you all. best of luck

andrews,

Just FYI, Atlanta DO has requested my files on 3 different occasions as they have been ready for my interview for the last several months. Upon InfoPass appt, I was told that my FL & NC have been cleared and my file should be in Atlanta DO anyday. It is just the matter of my file getting transferred....simple. Actually it is not easy as it sounds like. I don't think the local DO communicates with the SC properly. My SC which is Mesquite, TX is holding my file for some background checks. Local DO office has no idea about background checks. I have been placed for the interview since January, so where is my IL. It's almost end of June now. My interview was scheduled on Jan 22nd. Waiting 5 months and no sign of IL, what does that tell you. Think about it. Not trying to discourage you but giving you a reality check, that's all.

atlanta brother

my question to you is although ur file isnt there why dont you go back to the DO and request for them to interview you awaiting this file to transfer ,at least you would have that in ur pocket , they can still interview you even though their is no file like i told you before they still have a duplicate file that would be suffieceint to interview you for citzenship awaiting ur file to transfer from the service center?

and also i wanna share what the Immigration Supervisor emailed my congressman , listen to this:
"the N400 application was received by the nebrasak service center and was assigned a receipt number, the name check did clear and the application was sent to the detroit office to conduct the interview.the Nebraska service center did not receive the original service A filr despite a couple of requests for the same. As they are supposed to make a reasonable effort to have the original file on hand prior to approving the case, the processing of the application was continued, i checked with the officer that did the interview and the officer did not have the file and as of today still does not have the service A file.

what do you think that is supposed to mean , how many years should i wait for the freakin file , so obviously they have it but they arent transfering it just for no reason.

How to verify if name check was completed?

Hello,

I am new to the forum and have a question regarding name check status. I searched the forum and from what I could gather most people requested an infopass to get their status.

Is this the only way to verify if name check has been completed? Will I able to get this information by calling the USCIS customer service folks? Also, do I have to wait a certain no. of days before I can request a infopass appointment? BTW my priority date is Dec 8th, 2006.

I apologize if this information has already been posted somewhere. I did find a sticky with a pdf file regarding name checks but most of the contact info in it appears to be outdated.

Kind Regards

I don't know which DO you are associated with, but you should check the timeline thread for that office. In many places (including Dallas), normal processing is longer than 6 months. Let it ride a little longer before you start getting upset and inquiring.

Even if you find out it is name check, there is *absolutely* nothing you can do about it except worry. That's why it is not worth the effort to try to find out about this too early.

Interview on a duplicate file

worried2007,
I see your point but we have tried going thru that route also but it didn't workout. Here is a reply from my attorney that she received from Atlanta DO. Check this out!
ATL did request the file from the TSC. It has not arrived. ATL won't interview him on a duplicate N-400. He will have to wait until the file arrives

god they are so unsensitive to peoples lives and waiting is like nothing to them, i have alot of things that is on hold right now because of this , a great job , a petition to bring my mom from a country on a verge of war and all this things that matters but they dont care about peoples lives.

i hope me and you will have a good outcome and our wait will pay off soon.

I live here with GC and could not bring my wife here for past 1 1/2 years since marriage, Applied my citizenship and stupid uscis is taking forever

time to file WOM. In your case the judge will be particularly sympathetic due to a forced family separation situation. Mention you can't even bring her here on a tourist visa because she can't prove non-immigrant intent.

atlanta brother,

check this link out http://www.usdoj.gov/oig/special/0007/afile.htm, this is saying bottom line that depending on the ditrict they have the option of intereving applicants on a duplicate file as a precedannt to other cases in different service centers and they have up to 60 days if ur file isnt located for them to make a decision on a duplicate file.

and that proves what i told u last time ehat the immigration officer told me over the phone when i asked what happens if the file isnt transfered he said we will approve you using the duplicate or backup file that we have.

and also place in mind that Uscis dont want to go through the hassle of a lawsuit based on the infamous 120 day thing.

so im praying for you and me but listen i feel a little better after reading this and knowing that we share same experience, so hopefully we will be ok soon .

Good suggestion

Hey worried2007,

Thanks for sending me that link. It has a lot of detail. I have to sit down and read line by line and figure out which topic would relate to me. If you know a specific heading, please do let me know. Now what do you suggest, what should be my next step? I have basically sent a letter to the director/supervisor of N-400 unit yesterday asking him to look into my case and get back to me. I am hoping that he or she will open up my letter next week and will do something about it. After I get back from Pakistan, if I don't see my IL in the mail, I won't have any choice but to file mandamus thru this lawyer. USCIS won't leave me with much choice. I hope USCIS will really do something about my & your case and everybody who is in the same boat. I was told by the customer service that the file transfer takes upto 90 days and my 90 days will be up in the mid of July. The officer yesterday told me that there are basically 3 steps when it comes to file transfer. # 1 is file transfer initiated (that's where I stand), # 2 file transfer and # 3 file transfer completed.......huh. I hope he knew what he was talking about. Please keep me posted and if you have any further suggestions or feedback, please share it with me and everybody. Thanks again worried2007. Cheers.

atlanta bro

listen my advice to you would be call ur senator or ur congress person or better yet go their in person with all ur document they will send an email to their laison in the DO to see what can be done and trust me they do have power but they are just lazy.

so before filing a lawsuit try this route, because with a lawsuit against the USCIS they also have the option of denying ur application.

so put pressure on them from the outside like let ur senator talk for u its a better way in my opinion.

im scared of a retaliation in case a lawsuit is filed , they have alot of power and they can do whatever they want with whomever.

so let me know where u at and keep me updated and if u wanna send me a private message with ur email that would be good too so we can talk.

Hi worried2007,
I am already in touch with my senator here in GA. He has been looking into my missing file since March of this year. I even called him Friday to follow up. He has asked me to call him again and follow up with him on Thursday. He knows that my NC has been cleared so lets see what he will do next for me. My attorney feels very confident and comfortable that upon my return from Pakistan at the end of July, if I don't see my IL in the mail, filing mandamus is the way to go. There are other 3-4 attorneys I have talked to in different parts of the country and go the same advice. I 100% agree with your advice worried2007, pls don't take me wrong but agar ghee seedhee unglee say naa niklay tho unglee tairee karnee paray gee. Stay in touch my friend.
