Citizenship interview - Missing re-entry permit

Just to let everyone know, both my wife and I received notification of oath letter this week, with oath scheduled in 3 weeks (total processing time was just under 5 months). Oath letter also mentions re-entry permit, but I am assuming we are okay now, since my wife had already told IO that she doesn't have it with her any more.

I am wondering if I can apply for passport on the same day, as I would like to make a trip around 5/1.

Many people apply for the passport on the same day as the oath. But, if you are in a real hurry (if, for instance, your impending travel) is less than two weeks away, you can visit a Regional Passport Center ( http://travel.state.gov/passport/npic/agencies/agencies_913.html ) and get your passport within a day (or two). There are, however, stipulations attached to such quick processing. So, please read all the regulations carefully. (In this vein, I might also mention that, in my view, commercial passport expediting services are a waste of money.)

Congratulations. They usually will not bother you for anything beyond GC and oath letter at the time of oath.
You can apply for the passport as soon as you have the naturalization certificate. Some oath locations have passport application collection right then and there. You have the option of expediting it by paying extra fee, or going to a passport agency if you need it even faster.

I also had 2 reentry permits more than 12 years ago. Both were taken back by immigration officer at JFK. So, they do actually took these reentry permits back about 12-14 years back. At my interview last month, no questions were raised about hose reentries. Don't know whether reentry permits are taken back at port of reentry anymore or not. Taking them back makes much sense though.
