Citizenship for parent of US citizens

My mother is currently a green card holder for the last 3 years. Does she have to wait till she completes 5 years of residence before she applies for US citizenship? Or is there a way to expedite if I sponsor her citizenship? I am a US citizen for the last 5 years.

You cannot sponsor or expedite someone else's citizenship process, they have to meet the requirements on their own.

There are ways to obtain citizenship in less than 5 years, but none of those methods are based on being the parent of a US citizen. For example, military service, marriage to a US citizen.

@AKrishna: Check the N-400 instructions on USCIS. There is a requirement of 30 months stay in the US within the last 5 year as a Permanent Resident to be eligible for citizenship. Also, they ask to provide details of all trips outside the US that lasted over 180 days. There is document on the website called 'Naturalization Worksheet'(attached in my response); refer to page 5 for full eligibility criteria. In your mother's case you might want to ensure she has not been out for over 30 months in a 5 year period as a GC holder; If any trips > 1 year then there are some exceptions. It is called 'continuous residence' clause. I'm not a lawyer but I was applying for my citizenship over the weekend and happened to read this document several times.
