Citizenship Ceremony help........greencard issue

My wife had her Citizenship interview back in September. At the interview they decided that we(she) did not owe any back taxes(which we didn't) We had to run around to the IRS and State and get documents that proved we did not owe any taxes.....anyway.....we got the approval. The next step is to wait for the ceremony letter to arrive.
We just got the letter yesterday and the ceremony is next week. We waited over 3 months for this letter and had no idea when it would arrive. We scheduled a trip to see her family(out of the country) and to celebrate our childs first birthday with them. We leave 2 days after the ceremony. The problem is:
#1 we have to surrender her Greencard
#2 we have no way to get a US passport in 1 day.
#3 we live no were near any passport center that can issue a passport same day.
#4 we can't reschedule this trip.
#5 wife waited over 3 months just to get this ceremony date and does not want to wait for another ceremony
#6 we have another trip planed in March and just our luck....if we reschedule the ceremony.....they will do the same thing to us right before our next trip and we will be in exactly the same position

How can we get through all of this.....We need either a Green Card or a US passport for her to be able to get back into the US. Any Thoughts??????

Trip planning and oath ceremony scheduling don't go well as you have noticed.

You need to make your choice based on your priorities.

I would attend the oath ceremony now at its scheduled date even if I miss a trip.

If missing the trip is absolutely not an option for you, then you need to reschedule. And if it does not fit then as well, then you re-schedule again.

well, the only alternate other than canceling the trip or rescheduling the ceremony is to take an appointment at your nearest passport agency today for the day after your ceremony. Book a flight to the city where this passport agency is located, for a flight going out in the evening of your oath ceremony day. Spend the next day at the agency to get the passport and return back in time to catch your international flight. It sure sounds expensive, but it definitely is an alternate :)

These are the only 3 alternates that you have...best of luck!

I would have thought that when they schedule the ceremony.....that they would at least give us a months notice. We have waited since Sept for the ceremony apt. I figured that mid November - January 10 would be out since it was the holiday season. Who would have guessed that they only give you a weeks notice.

You can still get a US passport in one day if you make an appointment and show up at a passport agency with proof of urgent travel.
Bigger issue could be getting a visa to the country you are visiting (if a visa is required).

n400 decision still pending

I had my interview done on 9/17/2012. It has been 111 days today. Is anyone in this position? I did hire a lawyer because of my legal issues.
