Does anyone have experience with the Citizenship and Immigration Services Ombudsman regarding solving USCIS case Problems? If so, does it worth the time writing to them requesting help in solving a case?

Back Ground Check Pending

I wrote to them. Over a month later I received a letter that USCIS had initiated a formal inquiry and that I should hear from them in 45 days. Someone on the board once posted that CIS Ombudsman was worthless.
 
Ombudsman may help if you end up filing Mandamus

I had written to the USCIS Ombudsman back in September 2004 when my name check was stuck with FBI. In response I got a letter stating that a formal inquiry had been initiated and that I should hear from them in 45 days. That was the last I heard from the USCIS Ombudsman, and there was no follow up by USCIS.

I believe there is value in writing to the Ombudsman, because if you eventually file for Mandamus you have to show that you have exhausted all remedies. One way to demonstrate this is to have written letters to everyone in a position to be of help, including the Ombudsman.
