5 years ago I was caught trying to smuggle a friend into the US. I have heard that i cannot petition anyone, not even my husband. Is this true, please help.

I believe you are out of luck

I believe that smuggling an illegal alien, whether 5 years ago or 55 years ago, makes you permanently ineligible to sponsor anyone. You could fight this with an attorney, maybe, but your energy I would guess would be better spent finding someone else to sponsor your husband.

U made it, sleep in it...

Veronica,

You did a stupid and illegal thing, even if you had rationale for why you did it. Victory will be that of the US govt on this matter.

I can't see how you can avoid this question when is brought during the process of petitioning your husband.. However, since USCIS people are douche bags, maybe you can slip through the butt crack...

A Haitian immigration was issued a US citizenship, even though this guy was a drug dealer and had served times in jail. However, he applied for US citizenship and didn't disclose his crimes, the mighty and sophisticated FBI, cleared him and said he didn't have any criminal history. It took the issuing of his passport (he had it in hand), for the Justice Dept to take him to court to strip him of his new found american citizenship.

So, what is stopping you from trying the might of US govt? :( Only fear, but remember the only thing that we ought to fear is fear itself... :D.. Oh...my favorite... fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. In other words, if we get fooled once, we can't get fooled again... :o
