He applied for his 485 in June he got his receipts and AP also. But no EAD. Now he is suppose to travel outside US. Q is can he come back on H1? or he should come back on AP?

If he comes back on AP, he is no longer on H1 status and must use EAD to work. So if he didn\'t apply for EAD, he should return on H1.
 
Use H1 only

As long as one does not use his EAD there is no need of the AP.
Just use your H1.

Some sites say that on entry they can ask for the I-485 receipt
so take this along with you.
