If a child was born outside the United States
can parents return to the states together

The mother has the green card and has stayed more than a year in the country of origin, the child was born here, and now how should she return to her son in the USA

Was she not aware that staying out of the US longer than a year is presumed to abandon her green card?

What is the reason she stayed there so long? Did she get a re-entry permit before she left?

Normally a child under 2 accompanying LPR mother on her first return to the US after the child is born is also automatically processed as LPR, but in this case the mother’s LPR status may no longer be valid.
