Under the child act my Daughter is covered.

My Daughter is 17 yrs 10 months old

We applied for the Passport for my daughter because we got naturalization recently.

The post office said that we shall have to include the Birth certificate of the child and the marriage certificate and Naturalization certificate of one of the parents.

All this has been sent and received by Los Angeles Passport office.

Passport office has sent a letter saying
The name of the mother in the marriage certificate is different than the name on the Birth Certificate of the child.

We have no document stating that my wife's name before marriage was XXXX and now it is YYY

Did anyone have this similar issue ?

No, they don't usually ask for marriage certificate. They don't list that in the form, and it was not asked of me. I would understand that they might ask for it to make the connection between the birth certificate and the married name which could be in the naturalization certificate. Then I guess things can get complicated, and what I am going to say is pure speculation as you didn't give these details. In my case, my kid's birth certificate shows the mother's maiden family name. Then the marriage certificate should be good proof of change to married family name, and that way, potentially match the naturalization certificate. In my case the marriage certificate would have shown the wife's maiden name. Anyway, I don't quite understand what would be different with your birth certificate and marriage certificate.

You may have one of two things wrong....

In most states when you apply for a child's birth certificate, you are asked to provide mother's maiden name....you may have provided married name.

Or the marriage certificate is faulty where it lists wife's married name instead of the maiden name.

If all the things are correct...they should add up.

birth cert -> mother's maiden name
marriage cert -> maiden name and married name
natz cert -> married name

I think you send a detailed explanation that marraige certificate has wife's maiden name and childs birth certificate has wifes married name or vice versa as your case. Also mention that childs BC and your marraige cert has your name common which proves the REQ that child is eligeble for passport.

With that info , you will get the passport without any questions.

First to clarify - Before naturalization we were Indian Citizens
My wife's naturalization took place 3 weeks after my naturalization
Hence I applied for my passport and my daughter's passport

My passport was issued and my daughter's passport had issues.

When we submitted
we submitted
a) daughter's Birth certificate
b) Marriage certificate between myself and my wife

The name on Marriage certificate states maiden name of my wife
the name of parents of my daughter states mothers married name and father's name and child's name

Hence the query from Passport department
Why is mothers name different in Birth Certificate of child and Mothers name on Marriage certificate.

To resolve this issue I have
called customer service
as per their advice I have submitted
a) Wife's naturalization document
b) Affidavit of name change
http://travel.state.gov/pdf/DS-0060.pdf
c) Explanation that in India there is no decree of name change required when people get married.

Hopefully now they will have no issues.
