Can anyone share some experiences with these 2 questions please:

1. Can you use a "Cashier's Check " from a US Bank (the bank makes it for me)?

2. Can you safely send the application certified mail (they must sign for it)?

Thanks.

Yes to both. Make sure to read the N-400 and M-476 instructions before filing.

Thanks

I have read those documents a few times but must have missed the details on certified mail and Cashiers checks. I know they talk about personal checks and money orders, but I wanted to be sure about cashiers checks specifically.

Thanks.

Since you missed it on the first link I included, here it is directly:

Note on Filing Fee:
Fees are accepted in the form of money order, personal check or cashiers check only. Checks should be made payable to Department of Homeland Security or U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.

Do NOT send by certified mail if you are sending it to the PO Box address. You will get a web messg later from Usps saying "we tried delivery and no one was avlbl, will try again next day" etc. Search older posts in this forum to see how much people have struggled when they sent it by certf mail.

The best idea is to send by regular mail with personal check. When the check cashes, there is your proof of delivery!!

You can send by certified mail to the PO Box. The status online may first show "we attempted delivery on ..", (as some previous posters have noted) but the next day the status changes to "delivered."

Right Bob, but those 2 days are the seventh circle of hell till "delivered" shows up. The message actually says something like "we will try for a week and then return it to you ".

Also there is a different address for sending Fedex packets, for the very reason that Fedex obviously only delivers to the actual address of the recipient. The certf mail could be sent to this address.

I haven't seen any posters indicate that their certified package was ever returned "undelivered".

Where did you read this? I haven't seen anything in the USCIS instructions that courier based applications should be sent to another address.

Thanks

Thanks for all the detailed answers. I believe in this case the best approach is the use the cashiers check and send via regular mail. The fact that the check cashes does show receipt of payment in the banking systems. In the past I was advised by an attorney to send everything by certified mail because sometimes, in the case of time sensitive documents, USCIS have claimed it was not delivered on time etc. Anyways, thanks for all the responses.
