Hi,

i just received my oath letter in the mail and the ceremony is scheduled for 6th December (which is great). I was planning to apply for US passport right after the ceremony (just drive to nearby post office and submit my docs). I also have a trip to NYC on the 7th of December for couple of days. So my question is: can i travel with my existing driving licence, ie, on the back of it there is a restriction that links driving license to my green card? and would it be ok just to show the copy of my naturalization certificate to the person at the airport in case he/she asks for green card?. if anyone has any experience with situation like, i would appreciate your help. thanks

When you apply for your U.S. passport you submit your original natz cert. so you won't have it for a while. Make sure you sign it before you copy it (in black and white).

Most folks won't read the back of your DL to see the restriction. If driving, avoid getting pulled over. If flying, TSA probably just wants a valid picture ID and does not care about the restriction. You should not have problems.

If you live in a state that offers an enhanced DL, you will need your natz cert or U.S. passport to prove citizenship if you want the enhanced license but since you will no longer have a greencard, you will also need such proof to renew a regular license in most cases. DMVs can check your status via USCIS' SAVE program but there will be a lag time from Oath until the records are updated and some states are still rather incompetent in their processing procedures.
