Clarification on Change of status from H1 to F1
Sir, I\'m right now working in US on a H1B Visa. I got admission for my Masters program (full time) in one of the schools here and I had a question about the transition or change of status from H1 to F1. I was told that once I apply for my F1 (I\'m talking about a state wherein I have just applied to INS with a I20 form and not actually after INS approves my F1) I should stop working or in other words my H1B visa would no longer be valid. Is that so ? My concern here is - if in case INS rejects my F1 (for some reason) I would not have my H1 either and eventually go out of status. So I wanna know if I could apply for F1 first and on approval by INS, I would change from H1 to F1 or that I would neccessarily need to forego my H1 even while I just apply for a F1 (with I20 to INS) without even knowing if my F1 would be approved or not ?
