Changing Names while renewing Indian Passport after GC Stamp

My wife and I got our I485 approved and the passport stamped. We are
waiting for the plastic to come. My wife's passport is expiring in another
8 months and the passport stamp is also valid till that date.

We will be applying for her passport renewal soon. She would like to use
my last name in the new passport (she got the first passport before our
marriage).

I looked up the passport information at the Indian consulate site and it
seems to be simple process to get the name changed as a result of
marriage.

Now my questions are

- Is it going to create any problems in getting the new passport stamped?

- Is it going to create any other problems with the GC itself?

- Is it going to create any problems in naturalization, if and when
we opt for it?

Thanks and regards,

No, probably you will get your green card before another stamping.

It is too late to change name after green card approval.

You need to change name on all other documents too. It is lengthy process.

The simple solution for the above problem is not to change name. My wife did not change her last name after marriage. We have different last names. It is not really required to change name after marriage. Our passports and green cards have the same names as we had before marriage (different last names).
Hope this helps.

Svengat,
Could you please tell me your passport stamping experience. Did NSC/CSC caused any problem..
Thanks..

yeah it's probably too late to do any name changing.

you can do that when you apply for citizenship.

it is a pain but it's not that big a deal.

it's no worse than what you are already going through with INS

Stamping Experience

It was pretty cool.

Even though my approval notice told me to go to SFO, we went to
Indianapolis.

We had taken an appointment (Infopass) for 8:30am and reached there
in time. We were seen at the window in 15-20 minutes. The lady took
our papers (she asked for approval notice, passport, all past I94s, Advance
Paroles and work permits. she did not verify if we gave all APs/EADs. I gave
her a couple of APs, did not give any EADs) and asked us to wait.

We were called in after another 15 minutes or so. Made us to sign and our
fingerprints were taken - it not the usual electronic FP machine, but
the old world ink-on-your-finger prints. Our passports were stamped.
My temporary stamp is valid for an year, my wife's till her passport's
expiry date. The lady told us the plastic card may take 6 months or more
to come. In all likelyhood, it will go our attorney's office, so change of
address will not be a big problem.

All folks at the office were very pleasant and helpful, including the security.

Best wishes for all guys still waiting out there. Hope you get yours one day
earlier!

I don't think so.

No. File I-90 with sufficient evidence for her legal name change - marriage certificate, copy of new passport, DL etc.

No. There should not any problem, if her names are consistent on her passport, GC, SSN, DL etc.
