The experiences are mixed. In my opinion, the workload of the centers from and to is most likely considered. That being said, I cannot see them transferring you to the NYC local office (unless you get picked for an interview), but it is possible that you might be transferred to VSC.

Not likely, however. I would expect to stay with the CSC, just make sure to file an AR-11 (change of address), make sure it is received and data updated and you will be OK.

Keep in mind though, AR-11 will only fulfill the legal requirement that you inform USCIS of your change in address. It will not update your address on all your pending applications. You must also call the National Customer Service Center on 1-800-375-5283 with all your pending application notice numbers to have your address updated on your applications also; or else USCIS may send communications on your pending applications to your old address. (I accidentally found this all out today when I called NCSC for a different matter.)

Good luck! :)

AR-11 is legal requirement - and it has to be your physical address (where you live). However, I don't think updating serive center is legal requirement. If you provide your friend/relative's address (who live in west coast) to CSC, that's should be OK. That way, all the letters sent by CSC won't be lost/returned and on the other hand, the possibility of your I-485 getting transferred to VSC is less or zero (as AR-11 address update does not get reflected to I-485 in service center).

Even if your case gets transferred it's good in a way because VSC is faster than the CSC.
You might want to consider that.

They might continue your porcessing at CSC and when the time comes they can transfer your case for an interview just because your juridiction changed to NYC.

This is what happend to my case.
