changing from TD to TN for my wife

Hello All,
Please share your knowledge and experiences on the below. I am on TN status until the end of December (wife is on TD). My renewal application is already in the mail. Now, my wife has an offer and should change her status to TN. We are planning a trip to the border for this purpose and my question is, if I should accompany her? Since, my renewal is already in the process, will I risk my renewal by showing up at the border or is it okay since my current TN is valid until the end of December. I think I don't have to give my passport to the person at the booth since I am not applying for anything (just accompanying wife). Am I correct? Do we have to cross the border and return to apply change in status or can we go directly to the office? Thank you for any kind of advise.

When you go to POE, you are leaving US, so you need to re-enter on your TN. Since your old one hasn't expired, you will have no problem entering. Nor will this affect your TN renewal, since you will be keeping your current I-94 when you accompany your spouse.

How she physically gets to the POE depends on the layout of the POE, but for their purposes, one has left US and is re-entering at that point, whether or not they actually reported to the Cdn officials or not.
