Changing from AOS to CP

Hi everyone,

So I was lucky enough to win the US Diversity Visa Lottery this year while I was living in the US as an Au Pair. Originally I had planned to stay here and complete my application as an AOS applicant so I completed my DS-260 and paid my AOS fee (the fee basically for winning). However I have since decided that as my visa is up in January 2019 that I am not going to extend as an Au Pair and I am instead going to go home and do my application for my green card through CP in my home country. KCC have told me that I need to submit a written request to get my DS-260 changed and from what I have read it will mean I will need to pay the lottery fee again. However I'm not sure when I should submit this written request. Judging by last years numbers I should be up to interview in February 2019 (about a month after I get home) and I know it is a time sensitive process. So should I submit my written request and change my DS-260 information now even though I am living in the US for another 3 months? Or is it something I should only do when I return home as my current address and contact information is going to change?

And separately, are interviews automatically assigned or is it something I will need to book myself?

Thank you!

Are you saying you already made the $330 DV administrative fee payment because you were previously thinking of processing AOS? If yes, what KCC told you is correct - you will make the payment again at your applicable embassy if you go CP route.

If you’re already decided with going CP, email KCC now and request for them to unlock your DS-260 and make the necessary changes re home address and interview location. After submitting the form, send a follow up email to KCC letting them know you’re switching from AOS to CP.

KCC will schedule your CP interview when your CN becomes current and upon completion of the necessary processing they need to do with your form.
