Changing Employer (H1-B)

Hi all,

I'm switching my employer and my old employer has agreed to release me. I'm just wondering which is the better way (legally) to leave my old employer that is:

1- Resign the old company.
2- Tell the old company to fire/release me.

I'm also requesting my old employer to continue my medical benefits thru COBRA.

Can anyone give me some advice?

Immigration wise it does not matter. Carrerwise it will be better if you resign by yourself.
