Changes in Mumbai Consulate

Just reached Mumbai couple of days ago. Wanted to alert the users about couple of things I read outside the cosulate.

1) Police certificates are required from Jan 1, 2002. And from 2 different sources. I could not stand there too long because of security. I will try to get the details next week.

2) Effective immediately, Passports will not be given out on the same day at the consulate. Rather they will be courrired to your present indian address innn 3 days. So don\'t make any immediate travel plans back to the US.

I will try to see if i can go back to the consulate and get more details.

Wow!!

Why do they keep making our lives more and more miserable?
This whole courier this sucks! Now I have to make more vacation time available. Its no easy with all the work load.
I wish they would think more abt making the process a little easier for us!

BTW . does your Pkt 4 talk about the PCC form tow different sources?

Mumbai Consulate

Does the police certificates apply for all cases or only specific ones? My case is first time H1 stamping - first time travel to US.
Appreciate any inputs that could help....Thanks.

I came across this information which says that ppc is required for only immigrant visas - mine is a non-immigrant case. Any inputs?

Ofcourse, only immigrant visas. This forum deals only with immigrant visas.

If you have issues with non-immigrant visas you might want to discuss those in the appropriate forum on this site.

can we collect passport personally after 3 days??

This is a crazy rule. can we collect our passport personally if we stay in Mumbai for 3 days?? Now we have to rely on some courier service to get our passport which has immigration stamp for which we have waited so desperately!!!!!!! Can anybody else confirm this ???..
