I am waiting for 485 approval. I changed employer after 6 month of filing I-485. I have valid AP and EAD.

My new employer wants me to visit UK for business for four days next week. Do you think I should go ??

Is it risky ??? What document should I need to carry with me ??

I do not want to make a dumb decision, at the same time I need to secure my job.

Please help me guys. Thanks in advance.

RD 10/26/2001 FP 03/28/2002 EAD and AP approved sometime in Jan-Feb 2002.

I think I have seen posts on this forum..

of people travelling on AP before getting their approvals, so I guess it is safe. The whole purpose of AP is that, right? But be prepared to show all necessary documents at the entry point when you return more from a security point of view rather than INS point of view.

definitely consult your lawyer

most of tht lawyers give only the starter list of the required documents...we need to always add more papers to establish status, employment etc

as long as the papers are with you while u enter....u should be fine....

good luck

Confirm with your lawyer (or any lawyer) before you travel. I think AP is not based on any emplyer. So it should be safe to travel outside US with AP

Disclaimer: I'm not a lawyer.

Thanks

Thanks gcwaiting007, kmn, grassisgreen.

As you guys suggested, I will call my lawyer first thing tomorrow morning.

I appreciate you guys spending time to give your suggestions.

BTW, by any chance, anyone has any idea about applying for UK visa at New York City.

I think I am getting greedy now :)

AP travel..no probs

Tanha one

Have been travelling on Ap for a long long time...2 months :-D

ok here are the q's u will get (assuming u r a girl, change it to Sir if u r the opp)

1. Mam, is this yr first time on AP
2. Mam, can I see your 1 485 receipt notice
3. Mam, who is your current employer
4. Man, what was your purpose of visiting the UK
5. Mam, how long do you intend to stay in the US. Here clearly answer that u r under AOS and therefore will stay till your case gets adjudicated

6. Be clear abt yr dates of FP, EAD, TA etc etc..i had been asked once abt the dates

rem, the chance that you will be sent for a secondary interview is very very high..for me it has been 2/3 times

Sec interview. nothing to panic...just that they want to make sure that u r u! what i mean is that u r the person whose AOS has been applied

So pls carry yr drivers license. very imp....also for the paranoid carry your last years W2...I have never needed it but being on the safer side

You will have abs no problems..u will be allowed back...but just that the questioning will be more in depth

last march entered US using my AP. They didn't asked a single question and just stamped my AP. But, I had all the documents Pceefan mentioned. So, carrying all the documents with you is a very good idea and its a simle procedure!

One more question

Guys

Question: 1

As I mentioned earlier that I changed the employer. What should I say about the "Sponsoring Employer" and how should I explain them about changing employers/AC-21 etc.

Question 2:

Also I did not get my renewed H-1 stamped, so I still have my I-94 attached to the H-1 document.

Now should I give this I-94 (which is valid till 2003) or the other one using which I entered (that is expired) last year.

Please guys help me with it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you notify INS about your new job.
I travelled my AP and no questions at all.
It was smooth but my lawyer had advised to keep all the documents including EAD and letter of employment etc.
No questions.

Ask your lawyer though. I am not an attorney.

Just back on AP

Just came back yesterday at Newark, NJ. I wasn't asked a SINGLE question. The first immigration inspector sent me to the second inspection. Second immigration officer asked my passport and AP and asked us to sit. Within 5-10 minutes came to us where we were sitting and said "you are done".

Life is cool with AP. Thanks friends for your help last week.
