Hello all:

If I want to change the date of CP interivew due to some reason after a date has been published is it possible to do so? Does any one have experience in this? If yes what are the fomalities that need to be done?

Please let me know!

I am not speaking out of personal experience.

Requesting for a postponement is certainily possible though not
advised. They normally re-schedule your interview after 2 or 3 months. I do not know whether you can ask for a specific month in future.

But the interview has to happen within 1 year of your case reaching the consulate.

You will have to contact them either on the phone or the
email and communicate your need. Give references like
the Case #, full name of the applicant , the Visa category and
the reason for requesting such postponement.

I am facing similar kind of situation. I am not getting the PCC (though I have a PCC issued in June 2002) before 17th May. My flight is on 14th and interview date is on 20th May. I asked American Embassy, New Delhi about the options. They said that either I can face the interview without the document and the case will be pending till the required document is not produced or I can rescheduled the interview date. I have not taken any decession so far.

Two options are for me :

1. I may go as per scheduled date and from India I can send the passport and ask some friend to collect the passport and PCC from my house and send it to India.

2. I will ask them to change the date. In this case I don't know whether they will give any date in May/June or according to their suitable time in July/Aug/ or further which is a question mark now.

Very hard to take the decession!!!!

Request the consulate to reschedule your interview towards the end of the month!

Since the visa issued by the Dept of state is good to be issued, the consulate should be able to do that. Explain the scenario and give them a few alternate dates within the month you are scheduled for and I am sure they can accommodate you.The problem arises if you can't attend the interview in the month assigned to you. In that case, you are looking at 2-3 month delay. Good luck.:)

I know this is tough.

1. The first choice is not a good choice, because you are not supposed to send your passport out of the country in mail.

I am not saying it would happen, but if the Indian consulate
here looks for the I-94 stub in the passport they would not find it, and that would raise the red flag.

The Consulate at New Delhi would not have considered this approach, when they said you can submit the required document later.

2. The second one looks to be the only option. But hopefully they
would re-schedule the next month or the one after that.

PS: Please excuse if I sound conservative. But I do not feel comfortable suggesting any risky thing to anyone. I pose the
question 'Will I do it this way??' before posting it!

Raju,

Trust me, you sound reasonable and practical.

I asked from CGNY and they said that it is illegal to send the passport from India to here by mail. That option no longer exists.

Only option is to ask for a new interview date. I have to loose some time and money (cancelling and re-booking four tickets) but less risk.

What will happen if I go and face the interview with the old PCC and if I can get a PCC locally? If they won't accept situation will be even worse!!!

So let me stick to re-scheduling the interview date.

Option # 1:

You ask for the postponement and hopefully get it without much
delay.

This would involve re-scheduling the trip etc. Some costs occur,
but safer, since you would carrying the PCC you want.

Option # 2:

You go to the interview with the current PCC, hope that they do
not look deeply into that (or) convince the consular officer about
the fact that you have not entered India after the first PCC.

There is a chance that he/she would be convinced and let you go.

If they don't, then you have the problem of making sure that your
current H1B visa remain valid,

Take a trip alone back to US,

Get the PCC and go back.

This looks like a lot of hassle and additional cost, leave and so on.

Take an appropriate decision.

PCC letter may be enough

spp2000,

I know you are going through a rough time and a decision to make very soon.

My thoughts: Why don't you verify with the US Embassy in New Delhi that if the stamp on the passport is very important/requirement or just the PCC from the consulate will be good enough. If the PCC letter from the consulate will be good enough you may request the embassy to fax/fedex the PCC to India. You may also want to confirm if the Indian Consulate will issue a PCC letter based on your passport photocopies provided with the PCC request application?

Thanks & Good Luck.

cpDelhi,

Indian Consulate won't issue a PCC without passport - I have checked with them. I'm trying to put some pressure on them thru some other source. In case of no result, I'll request American Embassy to give me a new date. I'll decide by end of day tomorrow.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Changing of interview date

I spoke to the American Embassy, New Delhi for a new interview date as I have not got the PCC yet. They said that if I want to come in the month of May, I can just walk in on any date. If I want to come in the month of June, I have to take prior appointment.

I'll get the PCC on 19th and planning to fly on 24th.
