Change of Status Question: H1B to J1

I am currently in H1B. I have been admitted to PhD program in USA with full
funding for Fall 2011. I have applied for change of status from H1 to J1 on Jun
11, 2011. I got my receipt of application on Jun 15, 2011. The school semester
begins on Sep 6, 2011 (for Fall 2011)

If my Change of Status (COS) approval is delayed:

1. Can I continue to work with my current employer, till the next semester
begins (that is Spring 2012)? Is it legally allowed? Or is J1 immediately active
as soon as it is approved, and my H1B becomes invalid?

2. Say, If I wish to get my visa stamped in the month of August Can I travel to
India in August while my COS is pending ? BTW - I have submitted by DS-2019 to
USCIS for COS. How do I get my original DS-2019 to attend visa interview in such
case?

Please help.

Do you have to carry the stamped DS-2019 by USICS for the visa interview in your home country or a new (duplicate) DS-2019 so that the embassy visa officer can stamp your passport and DS-2019 for visa?

I have the same situation. After approval of your J1 you cannot work by your H1. If you wanna go abroad to get your visa you can, but you have to have your original I-2019. you can get it again from your primary source.(ECFMG for my case). If you find any information for processing time of visa status changes please let me know.
 
Admissions are generally good only for the semester for which they are granted. You need special permission to defer and many will not because they are expecting someone to show up for work. They have the right to deny and give your funding to another candidate.

Hi ,
I am working as a post doctoral associate at yale school of medicine , my current visa status is H1b . I came from pakistan on b1b2 visa and I changed my status to h1 b while I was in us .
I have been matched in a program that just offers j1. I am planning to file my another change of status to j1.
What is the total durations once I file my change of status.
Can you guide me about the procedure .
What are the chances that I can get my change of status in 2 months as I have to join my residency training from july .

Any help guidance on this will be very helpful
