Change of status from H1B to B1/B2

Hi Sir,

I have been laid off on H1B visa. I am planning to file change of status to b1/b2 visa before 20 days of my grace period ending date. What are the challenges I can face in the process?

1. Is it safe to apply for change of status in this current political environment?
2. What are the chances of approval?
3. If b1/b2 approval is pending and I get a job can I apply for H1B transfer?
4. Can we apply for extension of b1/b2 visa after approval?
