Change of spouse last name concurrent with I-485 appl.

Hi all,

I'm applying for my wife's Green Card...I-130, I-485 etc.
Her name currently (passport, driver's license) is still her maiden name.

Is there a specific form that we can fill out so her last name changes to mine concurrently with the GC application.

well, she does not need a name change to apply for I-485 etc.

but if you decide to do so, then there is a long process, apply for a name change for apssport first at ur country's consulate, then for visa name change, change in DL, and SSN etc.

As you can see its a lot of hassel and it really does not matter if she keeps her maiden name. I know a lot of women who have done that,
 
Yeah..it is better to keep the maiden name. If you are particular of changing the last name, then better start with the passport.

I added my wife's name to my application with her maiden name unchanged.
 
Just apply for change of name in passport. This should not take much time (approx. a week). Once that is done just use the new name in your I-1485 and related application.

Thumb rule is changing name is following order:

1. passport
2. SSN
3. DL
4. GC/I-485

There is no specific form for changing name. After GC approval you can use I-90 form. But before approval, only thing you can do is submitting the same forms with changed name.
 
It's better you change your wife's last name first in passport and then while applying for I485 form's use your last name for her also. Remember to fill the Other names used/Alias column with her Maiden name. That will solve all the problems.
