Change of Name & H1 stamping

Hi,

I had applied for a H1 visa extension. I am in US. I am planning to go to India for stamping.

I am planning to change my name. Is it necessary to change name here it self or can I do that in India? How does it effect my stamping in India? Do I have to get a different I797 with new name?

Please give me your experiences or opinion. Do you think I should write to INS?

From my personal experience name change is more easier here than India.

Once your name get changed , ask Indian embassy to change your name in your passport. However, unless you have a new name in your H1 petition I do not belive embassy in India will acknowledge your request. Try it.
