Hi All..i Am Basically A Citizen Of India And Hold Us Green Card On Indian Passport...am Right Now Eligible For Canadian Citizenship..i Was Wondering If I Will Be Able To Transfer My Us Green Card To The Canadian Passport If I Decide To Take Canadian Citizenship Or Do I Loose The Us Green Card If My Indian Passport Is Not Valid ?? Please Help !!

to the best of my knowledge - usually one is eligible for canadian citizenship after fulfilling the residnecy requirments for canada - that is u should be canadian permanent resident now- so you are saying you somehow managed to fulfill both US and canadian permanent residency requirements ????

if u r livng in canada - which is a requirement - then ur US GC may be under jeopardy!

I agree. If he fulfilled the requirement of Candian citizenship, US govt (CIS) can assume that he "most likely" abandoned his US LPR status.

What if the person living in Canada took up commuter status?
....just a thought..

That of course would work.
Not really. There is a basic conflict when you have LPR from both Canada and USA. You cannot legally reside in two countires. If you reside in the US then you have to give up canadian LPR and vice-versa, how can you get around this requirement merely by obtaining commuter status???

yes you can
You can maintain a residence in Canada or Mexico and use the commuter green card to work in the USA.

thanks for the feedback guys !!

I lived in Canada for three years on a PR status to be eligible for the canadian citizenship..was working in US and processed the GC during that time..recently got the GC stamped on my Indian Passport and also got the Canadian Citizenship Card..just doing my homework before I took up the Canadian Passport. Based on your feedback,I think I will get my Canadian Passport and Indian PIO card and continue to live in US and use my GC..Cheers guys !!

Nice strategy! You now have access to high paying US jobs, high yeild indian investments and quick immigration benefits from canada. Will suggest this to others.
