change job before I-140 approved

Emergency!!!
I am doing research in an university.Can i change my job,before my I-140(NIW) get approved?if not when it is the right time to do it?Thanks for your any suggestion!:confused:
 
who file the petition

Depends on who file the petition. If you did yourself, you should be OK. If university files on behalf of you, usually the employer would revoke the case if you leave.

My I-140 petition is through the lawyer outside the university,i guess this should be self-sponsored.I am wondering in case INS need me to replenish more material(most time include recommendation letters),and if my current boss will not give me the letter after i leave his lab,is there any negative effects on my case?

Others are better

In fact, your past or current employers may not help much even if they are willing to help. It is a common mistake to think that way. Try to find someone outside your community.
