I have filed my I-485. I have not applied for EAD As I have valid H1 till nov. 2002. My company is undergoing a major restructuring and chances of me given a GOOD-BYE is there.
If this happens , can I change employment after 180 days of filling I-485 without having EAD?
 
There is a risk...

If your next h1 company is ready to take the slack on GC, you can risk it. If I were you, I would apply EAD immediately to be on teh safer side and consult a lawyer when i am at the crossroads and facing the devil.

are there any cases that were denied after 180 days adjudication for those who got laid off before
180 days and remain unemployed for some time?

Hi,
   When did you apply I-485?If you got your reciept notice you can just walk-in to your local INS with your notice and apply for your EAD.You can get the EAD within hours.It is safe having EAD.

If the new company is doing a H1B transfer for you then you do not need EAD. But if that is not the case you would need EAD to get another employment else that new employment will be termed illegal.
