change B1 to F1

I have a B1 visa till 2015, I would like to study further in USA, is it adviseable to apply from my home country or go to USA and apply there and get the status changed to a student visa.
Also I might get married next year,would my spouse be allowed to come with me or be with me thereafter on F2 or is it difficult?
Please advise

You should get F-1 stamping. B-1 entry requires you to be on business for your employer. COS takes a long time and is difficult from the B visas to F-1. Entry on B-2 requires statement that you intend to interview and visit schools with the intent to enroll.

Why would you not go for the proper stamping in the first place? The only reason for not doing so is that you are trying to hide something pertinent to your application.

Your spouse can come if you can demonstrate funding to support two people.
