Chang from J-1 to H 1

Hello,
I am about to start a fellowship in medical research, they offer me a J-1 visa for one year or two. Is there any posibility to change the J1 to a H visa? Will I have to leave USa and stay 2 years in my country? Do your know if the sponsor has to pay any additional to process an H visa?

You need to check the applicability of INA 212(e) (the 2 yr home residency requirement) to your case. Home gov't funding? U.S. gov't funding? Fullbright? On the current skills list? Please explore to State Department website for J-1 waiver and 2 yr requirement applicability to you.
