Hello all, I am new to this site and find it really helpful.
I wanted to ask for your opinions on my chances for NIW.
My credentials come first and concerns later.
1. PhD in materials sci (polymers) (top 5 engineering school in US)
Postdoc in a hospital lab (top 5 medical school in US)
working on medical implants (artificial cartilage)
2. 4 SCI journal papers (self-citation excluded) from PhD work (IF<3)
- 1st au, citation: 12
- 1st au, citation: 20
- 2nd au, citation: 12
- 2nd au, citation: 3
-1st au 1 journal paper submitted from postdoc work
3. 4 international conference presentations (PhD work)
2 international conference presentations (Postdoc work)
4. 1 conference poster award (PhD work)
5. 2 patents pending (postdoc work)
----
So my concern is that my PhD work and the current one are not
directly related. PhD work was sort of general materials science
and my current postdoc work is very clinical.
If I focus on my current work which obviously has significant impact
on health, I don't have much evidence for it yet.
If I put emphasis on my PhD work, I sort of moved away from it already,
so it doesn't make much sense to talk about impact of that field. Also,
it's not that as obvious how it benefits the national interest.
As for recommendations, I will be able to get some independent letters
for PhD work, but not for the current work.
Does anyone have similar situations like me?
What do you guys think of my chances for NIW?
